Hana Škarková,
born 24th November 1978, graduated at private secondary school in Great Britain (Blundell´s School, Tiverton), specialising on musical theory and praxis. She studied piano, singing and composition. She reached musical exams such as Grade 8 on piano and singing and Advanced certificate in singing. She was also the finalist of the Orchard Performance Challenge ´97 at the musical festival in Exeter. After finishing her secondary study she returned to Czech Republic and finished her musical study at Janáček Academy of Music in Brno in 2003 studying opera singing.
She has taken part on an Internetional singing class in Beeskow in Germany with prof. Jutta Schlegel (Hoschule der Künste Berlin). She became a multiple finalist and prizewinner of the Internetional singing comeptition of Antonín Dvořák in Carlsbad. In 2000 it was a Prize of Aaron Copland for the best interpretation of his composition, 2002 the Prize of Czech broadcast of Prague for the best interpretation of her own composition, song cycle Moods and sorrows, 2005 the Prize of the National theater in Ostrava offering a possibility of singing an opera part in this theatre in 2006. She also became a finalist and prizewinner of the International singing competition Hariclea Darclee in Romania 2003.
She also recorded a number of musical pieces for the Czech broadcast in Prague, Brno and Plzeň, briefly czech authors F.Emmert, V.Kaprálová,Bohuslav Martinů, Jan Novák, Hana Škarková and also Olivier Messiaen. She took part on recording of the composition by danish composer Paul von Klenau – Die Weise von Liebe and Tod des Cornets (2006) for the danish broadcast, played with the Odense Symfoniorchester and conductor Paul Mann.
Hana Škarková performes regularly at the domestic as well as internation musical festivals, Easter festival of sacred music (2004, 2006), International musical festival Český Krumlov (2005), Internation musical festival of Peter Dvorský (2004, 2006), International festival of Ema Destinova (2006). She has sang in many other european countries, such as France, Spain, Slovakia, Germany, Austria and Denmark. She cooperates with number of czech musical ensembles and participates in many opera performances, such as Mozart´s The Magic flute and Puccini´s La Boheme in opera house in Liberec and Brno, and well known opera by Antonín Dvořák Rusalka as well as in the opera Beauty and the Beast by Philip Glass (2008) in national theatre of Brno.
Although she is on maternity leave at since 1st January 2008, she is still active on festivals, concerts and opera performances. Above all it is worth to mention a Christmas concert in Vankovka with Brno Philharmonic Orchestra and Czech Philharmonic Choir of Brno in December 2008 with conducter Caspar Richter and Carmina Burana by Carl Orff on New Year´s galaconcert in Janacek theatre (January 2009) with conducter Jakub Hrůša. She is regularly performing with dutch violinist of czech origin Tony Rous, specializing on czech baroque repertoir. In the near future she is again going to sing at the International festival of Ema Destinova in August 2009, Festival Spilberk 2009 in Brno etc. In 2008 she recorded another composition of the Brno composer and conducter Petr Fiala for the czech broadcast.
Her musical range is wide, but her domain is in classical opera and cantata works from lyrical to coloratura character. She can sing from baroque music to very contemporary compositions by authors such as Anton Webern or Dmitrij Shostakovitch.
